Teaching about the
Tudors this year?
Looking for a history lesson with a difference?
Want your children to be enthralled and amazed?
Are you studying the Tudors this year
in Key Stage 2 or Significant people or events in history in Key
Stage 1? If the answer is yes then Tudor Travellers provide the
perfect solution for your interactive history work.
Inviting Historical Interpreters into
school is the ideal way to enrich and broaden the history experience
for children of any age. A day with the Tudor Travellers is worth
weeks of book work.
A visit from the Tudor Travellers
works equally well at any point during your project. It is an
excellent way to launch a new topic; to inject a new perspective and
experience in the middle of a topic or at the end of a topic where
the children are able to show their understanding and you can stand
back and use it as an assessment opportunity.
Areas of the Primary National
Curriculum we can cover include:
The lives and events of the Tudor
dynasty one of the most famous and significant families to rule
England.
The age of exploration, with
privateers and wonderful discoveries from the new world.
The lives of rich and poor and the
many laws that governed all walks of life.
The changes to religion and the
turmoil that ensued.
Leisure, entertainment and sports.
Warfare and a soldier’s life.
Urban & rural life.
A
standard visit from the Tudor Travellers involves Will Becket coming
to your school to portray a number of different characters who
present what life was like during the 16th century. The
day can include a number of different sessions with different ways
of working so we are able to engage all children. We use character
presentations to start with, giving the children the chance to look
at the vast array of artefacts, and ask Will questions about his
life and life in general. We then can offer a variety of different
workshops to make sure all children get involved, these workshops
may be, banner making, penmanship, learning and performing a
mummer’s tale, halberd drill. These are only to give you an idea of
what we do, please CONTACT US to discuss your individual
requirements. An even broader experience can be provided by having
more re-enactors attend. This then enables more small group work or
provide a wider variety of experiences during the day.
Cooking pottage, is a
good activity to start with a Living historian then finish in class
with the class teacher.
Although
not compulsory we believe that if the children and staff dress in a
style appropriate for the day and speak in the language of the time
the experience is greatly enhanced.
Each school's individual
requirement is happily discussed, to ensure that the time spent with
the Tudor Travellers is not only a memorable one, but more
importantly, exceptionally worthwhile for the children's learning.
Tudor Travellers can tailor
your school experience to fit your school's space and budget. We can
provide one Living Historian for a day or several for a whole week.

We can tailor your visit to meet your
specific needs. Rather than tell you what we will do, we prefer to
know what you want. It is important for us to know where you are
with your project so we know where to pitch our presentations and
workshops. Communication prior to a visit is crucial and we always
like to discuss at some length what you hope to get from a visit by
Tudor Travellers.
